Lowcountry Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine: The Team to Treat Sports Injuries in Charleston

The sports medicine team- Drs. Schaaf, Jaskwhich, Spearman, McCoy, and Johannesmeyer are committed to the complete care of sports-related injuries, offering a comprehensive program of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. They are dedicated to treating athletic injuries of the musculoskeletal system, with special focus on the shoulder, elbow and knee. Dr. Johannesmeyer, a former college athlete, explains, "As a sports medicine physician, I love taking care of athletes, especially youth. I grew up playing every sport in the book which gives me a unique perspective in my sub-specialty of sports medicine."

One way that our physicians take special care of lowcountry athletes is by hosting Black and Blue Clinics. Dr. Adam Schaaf states, "Located in the center of a many thriving middle and high school athletic programs, as well as recreational sports, our Clements Ferry Black and Blue clinics provide immediate, urgent access to athletes upon injury." The Lowcountry Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Black and Blue clinics for athletes began August 23 and continue through the Fall athletic season. Open to walk-ins, the clinics will be held Fridays and Saturdays at the Clements Ferry Road location from 8am-12pm. Orthopedic surgeons on site, X-Rays, casting, splinting and physical therapy are available to youth and adults.

Lowcountry Ortho physicians not only take care of athletes in the exam room, but from the sidelines as well. Dr. McCoy is a member of the Wellness Committee at Ashley Ridge High School and Philip Simmons, and Dr. Spearman is a consulting physician for Summerville High School student athletes.
