By: Sustainable Real Estate Education Melisa Camp, a Phoenix Realtor with HomeSmart with Sharon Bonsteel, the Energy Storage Collaboration Team Leader & Building Codes Program Manager at SRP and sponsor, shared a vision of bringing people together to cross-pollinate and learn from other key stakeholders. The goal is to facilitate challenging conversations and situations and form strategic partnerships to move the market forward in a positive & lasting way. On September 25, the Smart Growth Summit will take place at Burton Barr Library. There will be over 100 key stakeholders in attendance, including the City of Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, with the goal of taking away smart growth strategies so Arizona can mitigate some of the growing pains it is experiencing or about to experience. Smart Growth by definition is an approach to development that encourages a mix of building types and uses, diverse housing and transportation options, development within existing neighborhoods, and community engagement. Walkability and reducing environmental impact also play a large role. Smart growth is about recognizing and understanding the various facets of a vibrant community and maintaining balance among them. A Smart Growth conversation has never been more relevant to Arizona. The information presented will equip leaders with new and better tools to address negative impacts. Participants will learn how these tools will help moderate challenges with traffic, affordability, & housing, and help protect the environment and promote sustainable economic development. Charlie Popeck with Green Ideas and Arizona State University is the Keynote Speaker and sponsor. Popeck is currently planning and developing 330 acres in the heart of Tempe and will speak about the Novus Innovation Corridor Project. Green Ideas will be applying for LEED for Neighborhood Development Certification for the project comprised of over 3700 residences, 4 million square feet of office & retail space, and an array of global-caliber sports, entertainment, and artistic experiences. The event theme is, 'One Home is All We Have.' The event still has tickets and sponsor opportunities available. More information at http://smartgrowth.eventbrite.com. End
