Yours Humanly Announces Two Recipients of its Children Have the Power to Empower® Award

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Sept. 6, 2019 - PRLog -- Yours Humanly, an international nonprofit that provides underprivileged children in underserved communities access to quality educational programs and resources, has announced two new recipients of its quarterly Children Have the Power to Empower® Award, which recognizes children for their outstanding acts of goodness.

The Children Have the Power to Empower® Award showcases "service to others" in a meaningful way and demonstrates to family, friends, and community that even children have the power to empower when they lend a helping hand and an open heart.

Jenesis Shaw, 9, of Rochester, NY, received the award for raising awareness about childhood cancers and for creating, assembling, and providing "Team Jenny Bean" survival bags filled with children's necessities that bring the comforts of home to hospitalized children. She was inspired to help other children while she, herself, was hospitalized during chemotherapy treatments for cancer of the kidney. Shaw has raised more than $70,000 and given away more than 200 survival bags and 1,000 toys to children in need.

Shaan Patel, 17, of Austin, TX, received the award for the work he does through the Shirts for Hunger project. The proceeds from the sale of specially designed t-shirts benefit the hungry, here and abroad. In addition to providing food and school supplies, Patel created innovative ways to make education fun for children of the Mother Teresa Orphanage in Lusaka, Zambia, by organizing spelling competitions and teaching math and geography in engaging ways. He has helped more than 150 children, and by extension, their families and communities.
