These senseless involved assault-style weapons, both shooters were Texans, both were young caucasian men.
While Texas is barely getting over the attacks on Texas soil of the El Paso Mass shooting, and as we were breathing easier because we had one less criminal on the streets, this attack happened in the afternoon of August 31st, 2019.
One woman said her husband and brother were shot as they heard shots and her brother went to investigate.
a 17-month old baby was hit with shrapnel. The baby is recovering, but has damage to her lower lip, teeth, and chest,
a 15-year-old girl was shot and killed while at the car lot with her family, picking up a new car. A postal worker was shot and killed when the shooter hijacked her mail van.
What do these have in common? Assault rifles. this is the second mass shooting in less than 30 days on Texas soil..
While state lawmakers cannot infringe on the 2nd amendment rights to bear arms, The state representatives, the State Senate, and the governor needs to address the issues, needs to address these senseless killings.
These lawmakers need to better control the "legal" purchase of assault-style weapons, to better the protection for the Texan citizens.
I believe firmly in the 2nd amendment, but I also stand for proper licensing, and better control of weapons, like these assault rifles, we need better control of who can purchase, we need better control of stopping criminals from legally purchasing these weapons of war.
The shooter in Elpaso had his gun sent from Romania.
The shooter in Odessa had an extensive criminal history. While we do not know at this point, where he purchased this gun at, he was still able to obtain an AR-style rifle.
My prayers and condolences go out to all the families and those involved in these senseless attacks against us, I applaud the bravery and courage of the officers involved in stopping this killer from continuing his rampage. I want to stand for everyone, in Texas, when they state, we need to stop these senseless killings, we are tired of losing family, friends, and loved ones.
Our prayers and words only do so much, it is time for all of us to take action. it is time for state legislators, the governor and lawmakers to protect their citizens, they can do this while not infringing the 2nd amendment.
