Alliance for Humans in a Robot Economy (AHiRE) Launches on Labor Day 2019

By: AHiRE
GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Sept. 2, 2019 - PRLog -- The Alliance for Humans in a Robot Economy (AHiRE) today begins its mission by launching a website platform for people to help guide humanity's future as machines radically change how we live, work, and play.

Founding President Barney Gorin explained, "We live in the proverbial 'interesting times', and no single issue may be more important to humanity's continued success than how we handle the emerging Automation Age. It is not our ancestors' Industrial Revolution—people's brains, rather than brawn, are being rendered unnecessary, and change is happening with increasing, unimaginable speed.

"The power of advanced computer software, the Internet, artificial intelligence, and robotics to change our world is there for all to see. For example, robots and software increased America's manufacturing output by 100% and simultaneously decreased manufacturing employment by 40% in only 35 years.

"There is much good in automation, as value is produced more precisely and at lower cost. The bad is life-altering: the people machines replace lose the economic value and self-worth those jobs provide; the government loses the taxes those people pay.

"These changes in the nature of production are but the tip of the Automation Age iceberg.

"AHiRE, a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) public educational organization, offers people the opportunity to participate in discussions of our future by writing and sharing information so humans can help to shape these profound changes.

"AHiRE opens the conversation with six basic questions:
1. Should the value robots produce be taxed?
2. If so, how should that value be distributed?
3. How shall people displaced by robots be helped?
4. How shall the moral, ethical, and legal relationships between humans and machines be managed?
5. How can people replace the workplace community that is lost?
6. How might humanity's freedom from labor inspire human greatness?

"Labor Day celebrates the men and women whose work powers the American economy. We announce AHiRE's launch today to emphasize that those people are at the forefront of the changes being wrought by the Automation Age."

AHiRE's motto is, "Humanity's future in a robot economy is up to us." For more information or to join us, please visit our website at www.ahire.org.
