What the PPI deadline means for nuisance calls

Aug. 30, 2019 - PRLog -- The deadline for submitting PPI claims passed yesterday (29^th August). No new applications can now be made. Over the past 10 years, millions of people have claimed a total of over £36 billion in compensation. This was somewhat of a cash cow for claims companies, given that up to 60 million policies were sold in total, many of which were in fact mis-sold to consumers who often did not know that they had signed up to it.

So what does the end of this saga mean for nuisance callers and phone harassment? Well, firstly, nuisance calls about PPI eligibility and starting a claim must surely come to an end. This will be a long-awaited reprieve for many British consumers who were plagued by endless cold calls. Maybe claims companies themselves will close for good, or maybe they will find another scandal to call about. Time will tell.

As for the wider economy, the end of PPI claims may have a negative impact. Many jobs were created purely for dealing with such claims, and this means that employees could easily and instantly become out of work.
