'Wagging @ The Woods' supports Alzheimer's Association, Humane Society
Senior living community to host 'day of furry friendship and shopping'
"Wagging @ The Woods" will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 21 at the senior living community located at 824 Lisburn Road in Camp Hill.
The Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area will be present with adoptable pets. The Woods will host vendors who will sell pet-related items and crafts.
Additionally, The Woods will hold a "Hot Dog Sale," which provides a combo meal for $3, with all proceeds going towards Team Woods' support of the Alzheimer's Association.
"We're all big pet lovers around here," said Tim McCallister, Community Relations Director of The Woods at Cedar Run. "We figured, 'Let's get some of these strays homes.' That's the main thing we want to do. Of course, we want to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association, a cause very important to us and our residents."
"We tied two things together because the Alzheimer's Walk is coming up shortly," McCallister added. "We're going to try to have a dog parade around the parking lot -- A Walk for the Dogs for Alzheimer's."
The Woods at Cedar Run team will participate in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's at City Island in Harrisburg on Oct. 5.
The "Wagging @ The Woods" event with the dogs and craft show fit nicely with the senior living community's objectives.
"We were trying to come up with a big event for the fall," McCallister said. "We had The Walk coming up, but we wanted to do something different. I said, 'Why don't we try to get the Humane Society here to try to get some of these animals homes?' We decided to tie in a craft fair with it. We have a woman who makes home made dog bones and she has an ice cream truck for dogs. It should be a great time."
