Follow on Google News | Calling all Tampa Bay Area Scouts Church of Scientology's Troop 313 to Present Merit Badge AcademyBy: Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization The Merit Badge classes will be separated in two periods, the first from 9AM-12PM, and the second from 1PM-4PM. Scouts can register for one or both periods. As the founder of Boy Scouts, Sir William Baden-Powell, once said, "In scouting, a boy is encouraged to educate himself rather than be instructed." "The Scout BSA program is really important to me", said Michael Soltero, Director of the CCV Center. "I was a Scout myself and learned a lot about applying the Scout Law to my life. Being able to guide youth through their merit badges is an honor." First established in July 1996, Scout Troop 313 has progressed from meetings in a small room with 8 leaders and 8 Scouts, to 38 Scouts weekly active in a large room at the CCV Center. Over the last 20 years, they have made a total of 31 Eagle Scouts; a rate of more than one a year. Humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard, who himself was an Eagle Scout, summed it up with what he wrote, "Of all the information which became important to me, such as photography, woodlore, signaling, and many other subjects, the basics of it was laid in Scouting." To register for the Academy please contact Michael at the CCV Center at (727) 316-5309 or email ccvcenter@ccvfl.org.
