Volunteers Brighten Up Atlanta Homeless Shelter

Atlanta building industry volunteers initiate facility improvements at Atlanta shelter for women and children.

ATLANTA - Aug. 23, 2019 - PRLog -- HomeAid Atlanta, a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity dedicated to building new lives for homeless families and individuals, held its eighth Care Day of the year on August 16 at Solomon's Temple. HomeAid Care Days provide free of-charge maintenance and repairs for nonprofit facilities serving Atlanta's homeless population.

Volunteers from the Young Professionals Group of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association; McMichael & Gray, PC; and Delta Sigma Theta sorority alumnae joined HomeAid at Solomon's Temple, which provides housing and programs for homeless women and their children.  Volunteers worked together to paint nearly the entire first floor of the facility, including the children's wing. Bright colors, including orange and yellow, were chosen to make the children's areas cheerful. All paint was generously donated by Sherwin-Williams, a national sponsor of HomeAid America.

The work of HomeAid volunteers and paint donations provided a savings of $6,000 for Solomon's Temple. Instead of going toward facility maintenance, these savings can benefit Solomon's Temple residents by providing basic needs as well as programs like financial literacy, parenting empowerment, and much more.

Courtney Rogers, 2019 Chair of the Young Professionals Group, spent the day painting at Solomon's Temple along with 30 other volunteers. "I appreciate what HomeAid does, and the ways I'm able to help," she said. "It's so nice to have such an effective, hands-on way to give back within the building industry and really make a tangible difference in so many people's lives."

This was HomeAid's fifth Care Day at Solomon's Temple since 2015. HomeAid plans to come back once more to complete interior and exterior work in November during a Care Day with the Georgia Chapter of the Community Associations Institute.
