Until partnering with Telmedix, only 7% of OMC patients referred to off-site eye doctors completed their exams. Many of OMC patients are at risk for diabetes, glaucoma and other conditions that cause irreversible loss of vision when undiagnosed. "Unknown to our medical staff, some of our patients were sitting in our waiting room slowly going blind," Uzzle explains. Now, more than 70% of OMC patients needing eye exams have them conveniently performed in the Telmedix facility inside of OMC's clinic. Telmedix uses advanced technology for the early detection and treatment of glaucoma and other sight-threatening diseases. Jeff Taylor, Oakhurst CEO added that "the on-site Telmedix Vision Clinic enhances OMC's value as a medical home to our community by bringing eye care and - in the future - other medical specialty services to our patients, on-site and on demand." Co-founded by ophthalmologist Keith Thompson MD and biomedical engineer Jose Garcia, Atlanta-based Telmedix is a successful product of the Georgia Research Alliance's VentureLab program, a state-supported incubator that helps fund local technology startups with commercial promise. During his visit Governor Kemp observed how graduates of the Georgia Research Alliance and other state incubator program are developing new ways to bring affordable, quality healthcare to Georgia citizens. About Oakhurst Oakhurst Medical Centers provides affordable, accessible, quality primary care services to ethnically diverse patients.
