YORK, Pa. - Aug. 8, 2019 - PRLog -- Opera Susquehanna, a non-profit young artist opera training program founded in 2016 in York, Pennsylvania, announces that tickets are available for immediate sale for the August 8, 9, and 10 double-header performances of Puccini's Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer this exciting production to the York community," says Ms. Leah Schenck Crowne, co-founder of Opera Susquehanna. "Both local and out-of-town vocal artists will be featured in these August performances, and we're so excited about our local partnerships. Our production team members are high-school students from York County School of Technology, our summer opera performance venue!"

Mr. Scott Crowne, co-founder and music director of the rising opera-training program, agrees: "Classical vocal music was and continues to be an intensely personal experience for both the performers and the audience. Our hope is to make this experience as compelling and enriching as it can be. Through OS, we are able to provide an avenue to the greater York area for audiences to enjoy opera and for emerging artists to practice their craft."

Ms. Crowne offers the following teaser about what audiences can expect at these performances: "These are two one-act operas. They were written to be performed together in one night along with a third one-act opera, which is performed much less frequently these days. The first opera, Suor Angelica, is a tragedy about a woman who loses a child. It's heartbreaking, and the music is rich and glorious. And the second one—-Gianni Schicchi—is about a family that is just a mess. Think of the sitcom Arrested Development, and you'll get an idea of the level of dysfunction that marks this family! This story is about a family that's fighting over an inheritance; there are nasty family members, and sweet family members, and then there's this conniving guy who gets involved.  It is absolutely hilarious!"

Performances will be held on August 8, 9, and 10 at the York County School of Technology, 2179 S Queen St, York, PA 17402. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors 60 and up, and $10 for student tickets (middle school, high-school, college, and full-time students of all age). Tickets can be purchased at https://www.operasusquehanna.org/ These performances are recommended for ages 13 and up.
