RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Aug. 6, 2019 - PRLog -- In California, a lawsuit over a controversial regulation allowing marijuana deliveries statewide, even in communities that have banned commercial sales. The Monterey-based East of Eden Cannabis Company is suing Santa Cruz county for threatening to have their license revoked for making deliveries into unincorporated areas. With other cities also pushing back against the law, results may set a precedent for future cases.

In Utah, eight medical marijuana cultivation licenses are awarded to a mix of local businesses and multi-state operators, after over 80 applications were received. Although two more growers could be permitted under state law, regulators chose to hold off out of concern for oversupply issues. Critics worry about shortages, but is it possible to accurately predict such matters in a new MMJ program? Let us know what you think online at Cannabis Broadcast Station.

In Massachusetts, the first recipient of the state's struggling social equity program for recreational marijuana businesses receives its provisional license. The company, Pure Oasis, will also become the first dispensary in Boston, the state's most populous city, when it opens in the coming months.

In Texas, one of the country's top medical schools, Baylor College, partners with leading CBD product manufacturer Medterra to scientifically research the benefits of hemp-derived CBD. They hope to deliver definitive and comprehensive results of CBD's biological capability as a health supplement and medical aid through their groundbreaking research.

In finance, Curaleaf continues its expansion spree with the announcement of the acquisition of privately-owned multistate operator Grassroots for 875 million dollars in cash and stock. The deal will expand Curaleaf's operations to 19 states, and solidify its prominent position in the U.S. market.

In Canada, new data reveals that while numbers are up across the country, British Columbia and Quebec are currently leading the way in cannabis sales. The two provinces had the most dispensary openings, demonstrating the Canadian consumer's preference for physical stores over online purchasing.

Overseas, Aurora Deutschland, the German subsidiary of Canadian company Aurora Cannabis, is the sole winner of three licenses to supply Italy with a total of 400 kilograms of medical marijuana over the next two years. Although Italy was the second-largest MMJ market in Europe in 2018, the price offered by Aurora is so low that their profits, if any, will be marginal.
