Boxer by Day, Cross dresser by Night
A new captivating drama titled "Manny" has wrapped in production in Houston, Texas. It chronicles a championship boxer who struggles with his identity and his search for self-acceptance.
HOUSTON, TEXAS—Move over, Rocky Balboa, and make way for Manny! He's the athlete who will forever change how you watch a boxing match in person or on the television. A tough, talented fighter in the ring, Manny is learning to embrace his inner queen on the world stage—but as you can imagine, that's far from easy. Boxing is known for its masculinity and tough-guy persona. In this "macho-man arena," there's no room for "prissy boxers."
"Manny is really in a difficult situation. He feels comfortable being a woman, but he also feels comfortable being a man," stated David C. Connolly, an executive producer for the new show. "As we're filming, we're not looking to make light or exaggerate Manny's life in any way. We're simply coming from the point of view that everyone has something they keep to themselves until they are ready to share."
"We want people to be able to turn on the TV in the future and look forward to each episode," stated Connolly.
"This show will not only draw them in, but it'll also remind everyone that it's okay to be different, to never judge a book by its cover and that people aren't just one dimensional. We all have our past and secrets."
The plot of the show revolves around Manny, whose boxing career takes off in his mid-twenties. He wins one fight after another, but then something tragic happens. His mother dies after a long battle with cancer. The loss of his mom, however, effects Manny is a way never imagined. With mix emotions and curiosity, he secretly becomes a crossdresser.
"Throughout the series, we will discover and unfold Manny's alter life as a boxer and a crossdresser,"
The talented actor Raphael Corkhill plays the pilot's lead role of Manny. He's no stranger to the small screen having multiple roles during his career, he's also an athlete and voiceover talent.
"We were really fortunate to have Raphael play, Manny. He's been great to work with and is perfect for the role. His athletic abilities and experience as an actor made him the ideal candidate for this character. We honestly can't imagine anyone else playing Manny," stated Connolly.
