IBADAN, Nigeria - July 29, 2019 - PRLog -- The launch was announced today of the African Night Tales Project, an educational project for children.

The African Night Tales Project seeks to curate and preserve the disappearing folklores of Africa and also to make them available in print, audio, video and other electronic formats. The project targets children from 3-12 years old and already has ongoing audio broadcast of children stories and folktales. The audio stories can be listened to online, on Auntie Mo Kids Radio located at The video component of the project is also scheduled to commence soon. All broadcasts are available worldwide and at no cost.

"Traditional oral folklore used to be very important in teaching children important lessons about wholesome community values and in sharpening their imagination. Sadly these folktales of our childhood days are disappearing; our storytellers are being killed by technology and social media. They are dying with the treasures handed down from centuries still locked away in their memories.  Maybe these stories are still told in the rural places not yet blighted by technology.  But it is only a matter of time before the last folktale would be told by the last storyteller, as the rural child now fully grown goes away to the city and finally the tales of our folks will disappear forever. We have a huge problem." This is the warning of Nigerian author and folklorist Rotimi Ogunjobi, who is also the promoter and director of the project. Recognising that most children rarely read anymore, African Night Tales Project   aims to actively stimulate children's interest by meeting them at their current favourite gathering points, such as parents' smart-phones, tablets and other multimedia devices. Through these gadgets, the young listeners will be able to enjoy broadcasts wherever they are anywhere in the world. Free listening apps may be downloaded from Google Play Store or from Apple .App Store .All broadcasts can be accessed through the internet at
