LED lighting delivers big savings for Surrey-based dairy supplier

The team at West Horsley Dairy approached LED specialist Earlsmann to discuss replacing the lighting across the warehouse and office areas at its premises just outside of London. West Horsley Dairy's warehouse areas were lit with traditional 400W metal halide high-bay lights that were ineffective and unreliable. Workers are on-site 24 hours a day, so good lighting is vital to aid safety, productivity and comfort around the clock.

Earlsmann visited the premises to undertake a survey and created Relux models confirming that 100W LED high bay units would provide excellent light levels in the warehouse and comply with CIBSE guidelines.  In the office areas the existing fluorescent 600×600 suspended ceiling lights could be replaced with the new Milan E LED panel.

During the on-site survey, Earlsmann discovered that new individual offices had been created from open plan area. This had implications for the emergency lighting (https://www.earlsmann.co.uk/commercial-lighting-low-energ...) provision.  Earlsmann provided additional emergency lights to achieve compliance with current standards. NCS Technology installed the lighting, adding to its successful track record of working in partnership with Earlsmann.

West Horsley Dairy is continually seeking ways to improve its environmental performance, eg by introducing green technology such as eco hybrid delivery vehicles and offering natural cleaning products packaged in bottles made from recycled plastic milk containers.

LED lighting provides proven environmental benefits through reduced energy use and superior longevity when compared to traditional lighting – and is therefore eligible for grant funding that incentivises green behaviours. West Horsley Dairy was able to secure a Carbon Trust grant (https://www.earlsmann.co.uk/carbon-trust-green-business-f...) to support the investment in LED lighting, reducing installation costs by 15% and enabling the company to achieve payback on the project within 18 months.
