MECA Solutions' corrugating adhesive rolls help optimize glue use

The performance characteristics of corrugating adhesive rolls play a major role in the quality of board generated by corrugating machines. MECA Solutions, LLC, produces rolls that can hold tighter tolerances than many on the market, helping corrugate producers reduce waste and cost.

Corrugating adhesive rolls are manufactured for fluting and corrugating machines that typically run at slower speeds than flexographic printing machines featuring lightweight anilox sleeves. Accurate glue application is crucial to the corrugating process. Adhesives join the tips of the fluted medium to liners above and below the medium, initially at the single facer and later in the process at the double facer.

"The ability of our corrugating adhesive rolls to hold tight tolerances gives corrugate machine operators the ability to finely adjust the amount of glue they put on each flute," explains Tom Kawula, wide web and engraving sales at MECA. Corrugating adhesive rolls focus on specific speeds

Unlike flexographic printing rolls that focus on high speeds as well as print accuracy, corrugating rolls count speed as a secondary consideration to appropriate adhesive drying times and the ability to hold tight tolerances.

MECA's adhesive rolls have a mild steel base with copper plating, and then chrome plating on top of the engraved copper. Mild steel is a cost-effective option that helps keep overall costs in check.

"Corrugate producers often experience extended roll life as a result of the way we manufacture our rolls," Kawula says. "Uniform wear across the roll face allows these anilox rolls to maintain tight tolerances longer than many competing corrugating adhesive rolls."
