WASHINGTON - July 15, 2019 - PRLog -- The White Dress Project recently held its fourth annual fundraising dinner, A Night in White: Breaking the Wall of Silence, and Dr. Clayton Lawrence, President and CEO of Lawrence Executive Alliance of Professionals (LEAP), LLC, was pleased to attend in support and recognition of friend and colleague Dr. Regina Benjamin. The 18thSurgeon General of the United States was an honoree of The Blossom Awards, which recognizes "fearless advocates, physicians, and community servants who have dedicated their lives to improving women's health and wellness."

The July 13 function was held at the City Winery, 1350 Okie St. NE, where guests gathered to raise funds to help improve the quality of life for uterine fibroids and survivors. The White Dress Project aims to break the "wall of silence on an epidemic too big to ignore," reporting that an estimated 26 million women between the ages of 15 and 50 have uterine fibroids.

"It is an honor to have shared an evening with supporters of such a worthwhile cause," Dr. Lawrence said. "When we all come together for the purpose of advocating and educating the public about important health topics, such as uterine fibroids, we become part of a movement that can do so much more than our individual efforts."

The topic, he added, is incredibly personal and it is equally important not just to educate others, but to support those who, through The White Dress Project, are provided with an opportunity to connect with others on their unique journeys, sharing their experiences and receiving encouragement.

Dr. Benjamin changed the face of history in American medicine, as she has served tirelessly to bring awareness to some of the most foreboding diseases facing Americans today. From the founding, establishing and rebuilding of her own health clinic, the Bayou La Batre Rural Health Clinic, to becoming the first African-American woman to be president of the State of Alabama's Medical Society, to being appointed President Barack Obama's U.S. Surgeon General, she has remained dedicated to maintaining access to healthcare for all citizens and leading initiatives to encourage healthier lifestyles for minority and underserved communities.

"I can think of no one more deserving than Dr. Benjamin to be honored as a 2019 Blossom Award recipient," Dr. Lawrence said. "We are proud of the work that she has done on behalf of Americans as the Surgeon General and that she continues to do now that she has left office. She continues to offer support to both our medical staffing company and our nonprofit, LEAP Foundation DC, setting an incredible example to the youth who benefit from our mentorship opportunities. As we each continue to promote the spirit of healthy, vibrant and compassionate communities, we congratulate Dr. Benjamin on this well-deserved award," Dr. Lawrence said.
