EUGENE, Ore. - July 2, 2019 - PRLog -- Ever since the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, whenever the Army has defended the United States during wartime, military spouses have taken care of home and family alone. In 2008, Wyatt-MacKenzie Publishing gave voice to these unique challenges with an anthology of stories entitled Household Baggage Handlers: 56 Stories From the Hearts and Lives of Military Wives. This month the publisher announces a second edition of the book with a fresh, current look and updated content but with the same objective as before.

"From the beginning, Household Baggage Handlers was a way for military spouses to share, connect, and support one another. With a second edition, we're doing the same thing with new readers," said editor and former Army spouse Marna Ashburn. She notes that deployments have continued at an unprecedented pace since the first issue of Household Baggage Handlers in 2008, exposing many more families to this demanding lifestyle.

The curated stories in Household Baggage Handlers explore timeless topics such as delivering a baby while the father is out of the country, coping with bats, blizzards, and broken cars alone, and dealing with the ever-present anxiety of having a loved one in harm's way. Drawing from the stressful circumstances of extended separations, frequent moves, and foreign locations, forty-eight women share their experiences as they tackle the daily dramas of military life.

The authors represent family members from every branch of the service--Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps--against the backdrop of all eras beginning with WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam, to the current Global War on Terror. Together they memorialize life-changing moments in the collective identity known as "military spouse."

Available now, the second edition of Household Baggage Handlers: 56 Stories from the Hearts and Lives of Military Wives edited by Marna Ashburn retails for $16.00 at Amazon.com or your local book retailer.
