BYD Applauds California's Move to Zero Emission Airport Shuttles

LOS ANGELES - June 27, 2019 - PRLog -- BYD (Build Your Dreams), a pioneer in battery-electric technology, applauds the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for adopting the Innovative Zero-Emission Airport Shuttle Bus regulation (ASB), requiring all airport shuttles to be zero emission by Dec. 31, 2035.

To date, BYD has three airport projects across the country for zero emission buses – Kansas City International Airport, Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, and, with deliveries beginning later this year, Los Angeles International Airport.

This rule is a win for the state's residents. The health benefits of this new rule are undeniable – a reduction of 138 tons of nitrogen oxides and a 90% reduction in greenhouse gases. This rule will also help reduce noise at airports.

The rule will also send a critical signal to the market that zero-emission buses in all sectors are here to stay, which will in turn drive technology transfer and investment in the truck sector.

In order to meet the state's ambitious deadlines, California must continue to provide funding for the multiple incentive programs currently available to reduce or eliminate upfront incremental costs of zero emission buses and corresponding infrastructure. Those programs include the Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Program, Low Carbon Transit Operation Program, Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program, utility investments and other programs.

BYD has partnered with Generate Capital for an electric bus leasing program that allocated $200 million to accelerate adoption of private and public sector electric buses. This leasing program provides agencies with another option beyond normal government financing used for infrastructure and other capital improvements.
