CHICAGO - June 18, 2019 - PRLog -- A lobby group called TaurusFundsInfo has contacted consultants at firms such as Albourne Partners, Aon Hewitt, Callan Associates, Cambridge Associates, Cliffwater, TorreyCove, Verus and Wilshire Associates, which seem to have a significant number of their US public pension fund clients invested in Taurus Funds Management.  They have been asked:

1.       Is Taurus Funds Management really a responsible (https://www.unpri.org/) investor?

2.       Australia is a major financial center for extractive industries, so why does it appear that no major Australian institutions have invested with Taurus? Do they know something about Taurus Funds the US institutions don't?

3.       Are Taurus Funds  a fit and proper investment for the hard-earned pension funds of millions of US public employees?

Taurus Funds Management is based in Sydney, Australia, but it invests mainly into natural resources companies operating on the African continent. Australian sporting legend, Nick Farr-Jones, is one of its senior managers. The Fund claims to offer "bespoke financing solutions for global mid-tier & junior mining companies" but what it seems to do instead is to exploit distressed resource companies operating in risky geographies, the ones that are desperate for funding at almost any price. The money offered by Taurus seems to come with hidden strings attached which are almost impossible for companies to address, meaning usurious clauses are triggered, leading to Taurus claiming huge fees, equity stakes, frequent changes in management, and costly litigation with only a collapse in value in return. The lobby group has put up a website containing case studies showcasing the mistreatment of such distressed companies as Tiger Resources, Toro Gold and Hummingbird Resources https://taurusfunds.info/case-studies/.

Matt Anderson, the face behind TaurusFundsInfo, has many questions for Taurus Funds, but one in particular that should be answered by these investment consultants: "Why are they recommending that major US public pension funds invest in Taurus when it appears that no major Australian institutions have invested with  them, despite the fact that Australia is a major financial center for extractive industries?Do the Australians know something the US institutions don't? Is Taurus a fit and proper investment for the hard-earned pension funds of millions of US public employees?"
