| Cheers! Daytona Beach Brewing Company Turns Five, Hosting Anniversary Party June 27, 29 & 29By: Daytona Beach Brewing Company Before opening the brewery, the couple enjoyed visiting breweries in Florida and across the country 'researching' how they could make it work in Daytona Beach. Ultimately, they modeled their brewery after the ones they visited in Denver Colorado where there is a small tap room up front and distribution out back. There were no other breweries in the area when Alan and Merlita decided to open one. It took two years to open and by that time, three breweries in surrounding cities were ready to open. The couple actually had to change the law in Daytona Beach because the city did not allow a tasting room in a commercial area. In other words, you were not allowed to serve beer to customers in a commercially zoned building. It took a year to change the law in Daytona Beach. "The Daytona Beach City Council were extremely excited, they have always been behind me and supported us," said Alan. The couple selected the location due to the close proximity to Daytona International Speedway and their distributor, Daytona Beverages, "The space we are in was previously a church, so we are in a very blessed building," said Merlita with a smile. The brewery rotates several of their taps. Select beers are for distribution only, as well as some are for tap room only. "Our most popular beer has been Driver 8 and our Daytona Blonde Ale," said Merlita. Daytona Beach Brewing Company is located at 482 Fentress Blvd., Unit N, Daytona Beach, Fla.
