Chlorinated Solvent Soil Contamintion Identified During Oil Tank Sweep Using GPR in Wall, N.J

WALL, N.J. - June 15, 2019 - PRLog -- Not all Oil tank sweeps are created equal. Recently while performing an Oil Tank Sweep using Ground Penetrating Radar a plume of Chlorinated solvents was discovered on a residential property in Wall Township, N.J.  During the oil tank sweep the ground penetrating radar identified an anomalie  After further investigation using a soil boring tool, chlorinated solvent contaminated soil was identified.  The anomalie identified by Ground Penetrating Radar showed a soil disturbance of the soils in the area of the contamination plume. Further investigation was proposed by Environmental Systems. The property owner will at the very least have a complete a site investigation and a  possible remediation cleanup to remove the chemicals from the soil and ground water. The estimated cost to remediate is estimated to be  $15000- 20000. Oil Tank Sweeps using a wand metal detector that beeps would have missed this contaminated area adjancet to the residential structure. The Ground Penetrating Radar gives use a visual interpretation with screen to identify the size. and exact location of the anomalie. Missing this area of Environmental concern may lead to problem with Vapor Intrusion Issues with the interior of the home possibly making the occupants sick. Again no oil tank were discovered and again this story reinforces that just because a tank is not found does not mean site is not contaminated.
