Tim Barry - Radio Entrepreneurs (2)
- June 13, 2019
-- Tim Barry, partner at blumshapiro
, the largest regional business advisory firm based in New England with offices in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, recently appeared as a guest on "Radio Entrepreneurs."
Barry was interviewed by the show's host, Jeffrey Davis, as well as guest host Kevin Smith of Best of Care in Quincy, where the interview was recorded. Barry discussed changes in the tax code as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, and more specifically the new Qualified Business Income (QBI) deduction for business owners.
Barry recapped many aspects of the largest redesign of the tax form in decades, and provided a perspective of people's responses to these changes, now that most people have filed for the first time with these changes in place. He also went into greater length about the new QBI deduction, which benefits business owners by offering a 20% deduction based on a taxpayer's qualified business income. This income must be derived in a trade or business. Rental real estate qualifies if rising to the level of a trade or business, as does REIT dividends and income from publicly traded partnerships.
Radio Entrepreneurs shares the stories of entrepreneurs in the interest of giving more exposure to innovative and fast-moving companies while creating a knowledge pool for the enrichment of the entrepreneurial community around the world. The show is broadcast daily and the individuals in the interviews are entrepreneurs from various backgrounds. The conversation is their story: the story of who they are and how they became an entrepreneur.
"The Radio Entrepreneurs broadcast was a terrific conversation, and an opportunity to talk about all the changes in the latest tax reform, as well as the possibility of more changes in the future," said Barry. "Thanks to Jeff and his team for a great broadcast," he added.
