Chris is a licensed Professional Engineer and holds BS and MEng degrees in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University. He specializes in techno-economic modeling and analysis.  He works with companies that are developing or investing in new chemical and bioprocess technologies, helping them use techno-economic modeling to better understand their economics at a commercial scale. His clients include venture capital firms, universities, national labs, independent startups, and startup incubators.  With the techniques, software, resources, and templates that he has developed over 15+ years of practice and study, he can quickly and effectively get companies answers to their most important questions. Prior to consulting, Chris spent twelve years working in R&D, scale-up, and pilot plant EPC.

Daren has over 20 years of experience in the thermochemical conversion of biomass starting with his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer, holds 12 U.S. patents, and 16 refereed publication.  He was directly involved in the establishment of the inaugural pyrolysis R&D programs at Iowa State University, University of Texas at San Antonio, USDA Agricultural Research Service, ConocoPhillips, and Cool Planet Energy Systems.  He has worked with a diverse variety of agricultural, forestry, and waste-stream feedstocks in lab, pilot, demo, and commercial-scale pyrolysis, gasification, and torrefaction systems.  Daren is an expert in pyrolysis reactor design, biomass feeding components, bio-oil collection and clean-up systems, techno-economic analysis (TEA), life cycle assessments (LCA), and mass and energy balance calculations for both internal and external due diligence technology evaluations.  Additionally, he provides on-site technical support and optimization for biomass and other thermochemical conversion systems.

Based out of the United Kingdom, David has a degree in Chemical Engineering and Masters in Renewable Energy Systems Engineering.  He has been involved in the global energy sector for much of his 36-year career, having worked at Texaco and Mobil, as well as through management consulting at Price Waterhouse and Arthur D. Little.  He has been in private consulting for many years, advising about advanced biofuels and bio-oil conversion, including recent engagements evaluating refinery co-processing of bio-oils for two large clients.  David worked in EU joint research projects, evaluating biomass conversion technologies, and has done a variety of projects for clients and agencies in Europe, US, South America, Middle East, India, Australia, and Africa.  David will be coordinating and leading many of LEC's projects overseas.

Tad is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas, holds an MBA and M.S. in Natural Resources and Environment from the University of Michigan and BS in Chemical Engineering from Ohio University.  He specializes in new technology development and deployment of biofuels and bio-based processes.  His areas of expertise include syngas generation from biomass and refused derived fuel (RDF), bio-jet via Fischer-Tropsch and competing routes, soy biodiesel, pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion, and soy and algae bioplastics.  He is also knowledgeable about conventional oil & gas and chemical processes, and how innovative bio-based concepts compete with incumbents in terms of economics and environmental impact. Tad has worked inside and with technology developers and EPC firms on projects ranging from small-scale pilot plants to a $14 billion upgrade of Mexico's largest offshore oil field.  In addition, Tad works with investment firms and insurance companies to evaluate the viability of and risk associated with developing and deploying new technologies.
