Shopping Lists Are What Keeps Canada Healthier Than UK and USA, Listonic study finds

LODZ, Poland - June 5, 2019 - PRLog -- International shopping list app, Listonic, looked into what grocery lists their users in Canada, the USA, and the UK, to see who made healthier lists in 2018. When comparing the data against official obesity and activity rates, the data suggest that healthy grocery shopping may be key to staying healthy.

The research found that Canadians put more fruit and vegetables on their grocery lists that their American and UK counterparts. Indeed, 21% of the average Canadian shopping list is comprised of healthy produce compared to just 18% in the UK, and 15% in the USA.

Compare this against official World Health Organization figures for obesity, the figures seemingly correlate with Listonic's findings. Canada has the lowest rate of obesity among the three countries (27.2%) with the UK coming 2nd with a rate of 27.8%, and the USA last with a whopping rate of 36.2%.

But activity is important too, right?

Interestingly, Canada doesn't come up trumps when it comes to meeting government guidelines for daily activity. It actually comes in last place, beaten by both the USA and UK who have higher % of people getting their recommended dose of daily exercise.

So, what does this mean?

The data suggests that healthy shopping habits might be key to being healthy, and more important than being active.

CEO and co-founder of Listonic, Filip MiƂoszewski, says:

"Having data taken from real life shopping lists rather than from surveys gives us an unprecedented insight into the actual grocery habits of people who use our app. Comparing them against official statistics for obesity and daily activity, it seems eating healthily is much more important than we realize compared to being active. Canadians eat healthily but aren't as active, yet still manage to be healthier than the British and Americans."

Other interesting findings from the research shows that bananas are the most popular fruit across all three countries. Bread, milk, and eggs are also the top 3 grocery products across the board.

Listonic, founded in November of 2008, is one of Poland's most successful tech start-up companies. Their shopping list app, also called Listonic, has over 2 million downloads, 760,000 active users a month, and is available in more than 40 languages. It is one of the highest rated shopping list apps on both Google Play and Apple Store.
