DARIEN, Conn. - May 31, 2019 - PRLog -- The Geary Gallery of Darien is proud to present "Capturing Moments," featuring the thoughtful impressionistic paintings of New England painter, Judith Carbine. Her exhibit runs June 1 – 29 at the Geary Gallery located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien.

The influences of Judith Carbine's 30 years as a painter can be traced to her childhood and youth. Growing up on a bucolic dairy farm in Vermont, studying piano and organ at an early age and through college, and immersing herself in creative projects for church and school, all greatly impact her art.

"The significance of my experiences living in the Green Mountains, and as a musician, is an integral part of my identity with the subjects I paint," Carbine explains.

She soon discovered the works of the American and European impressionists. "Their use of color, light, and brushwork, and their need to capture specific moments in time and space is most appealing to me as a painter."

Carbine studied with many artists; among them are Frank Webb, Milford Zornes, Henry Fukuhara, Harry Dayton, Don Andrews, and Charles Sovek. Carbine agrees with American watercolorist, Ed Whitney, who said that painters are entertainers, shape makers, and symbol collectors. "These artists, and my study of the impressionists, have given me a vocabulary for painting a picture. This allows me a means for personal interpretation of a subject."

Carbine mostly focuses on brushwork when creating her paintings, but through the years, she has also enjoyed creating with a palette knife. She did a series of Vermont quarries using this technique. Most recently, Carbine has been working on a floral semi-abstract series with the use of a palette knife.

Judith Carbine's work has been exhibited at the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, the Academic Artists Association, and is represented in galleries in New England.

"I believe what Degas said about painting: A painting should always be a product of the artist's imagination. It should never be a copy."

Carbine's exhibit runs June 1 - 29 and her paintings are available for acquisition. All are welcome and admission is free. To view some of her work, visit our online gallery (https://www.gearygallery.com/?artists=judith-carbine). https://www.gearygallery.com/?artists=judith-carbine
