Follow on Google News | Atlanta Nonprofit LHTYF Pairs up with PeachState for 5KLive Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation will present the 9th Annual Unite for Healthy Kids 5K Walk & Run sponsored by PeachState and Arden's Garden.
By: Live Healthy and Thrive Youth Foundation Inc "Our 5K event is targeted toward families because our goal is to get people motivated to get fit and exercise together as a family unit;" said Lori A. Manns, founder and president of Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation. According to the Physical Activity Council, walking is the most popular way that people choose to stay active in the US, with 117 million people choosing this as the way to get moving, closely followed by running and jogging both outside and on the treadmill. "Studies show that more people walk than run for exercise, that's why the Unite for Healthy Kids 5K Walk/Run focuses on walking not just running," said Manns. LHTYF's 5K event features a race for the adults and a kids race for children ages 5-12, which covers the entire family. The actual 5K race event will begin at 9 a.m. in the parking lot in front of the clubhouse at Sugar Creek Golf & Tennis Club and end at approximately 11:30 a.m. Participants may register on-line for a fee of $35 which includes a souvenir T-shirt, gift bag and complimentary healthy snacks and beverages. Runners also have the opportunity to enter a drawing to win a gift card provided by Phidippides and Atlanta Braves home game tickets. The Atlanta Braves have partnered with Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation for the 9th year in a row to offer free home games tickets compliments of the "Reach Out Be Our Guest" program for the participants who raise the most in donations for the Unite for Healthy Kids 5K Walk/Run. Local radio station WAMJ's, street team will be on hand to provide music and entertainment to get participants warmed up to walk and run.
