The seeds are implanted under anesthesia during CT scanning in a 30-minute outpatient procedure. There are no scalpels, scars or stitches involved. Patients go home the same day and can go back to all activities the following day. The 5 patients did not have any significant side effects from the seed implant. Not every lung cancer patient is a candidate for the seed implant and some patients may experience a different outcome than the patients in the study. Dr. Doggett and his group have been performing and refining the CT guided seed implant procedure since 1993 and have now treated over 800 lesions.
