HOPKINS, Minn. - May 29, 2019 - PRLog -- Hopkins Carpet One wants consumers to be aware of the impact the tariffs on products from China will have on the flooring industry. A 10 percent tariff was put in place last year, and an additional 15 percent went into effect May 10. Now, tariffs on China imports are at 25 percent.

China is the largest producer of flooring products that are purchased by American consumers. In fact, roughly 75 percent of the products Hopkins Carpet One sells in their store are made in China. There's no doubt these new tariffs will have a large impact on the flooring industry.

Flooring manufacturers and distributors have come together and decided to increase their prices on flooring products from China on June 1. The price on the products may not go up exactly 25 percent as some distributors may try to absorb some of the cost; however, prices will definitely increase on flooring products from China. The increased pricing will be seen in flooring stores throughout the United States, including at Hopkins Carpet One near Minneapolis.

For consumers, Hopkins Carpet One wants them to be aware of the upcoming price increase. Consumers will likely see a large difference in pricing between products made in the United States and those made in China.

Consumers should not expect American manufacturers to immediately pick up the slack and begin producing these flooring products here. Many types of flooring only come from China. Due to technology and manufacturing needs, it will take time for U.S. flooring manufacturers to catch up. Time will tell if American manufacturers will make these products or not.

Hopkins Carpet One also wants consumers to understand that placing a flooring order before June 1 will not guarantee better pricing. Depending on when products ship and how much is already in stock will determine when prices change. Hopkins Carpet One has been doing their best to warn customers about the upcoming price increases. Unfortunately, some prices may change without notice, even if an estimate was already provided. Consumers should keep this in mind as they shop for flooring.

Hopkins Carpet One has served the Minneapolis area with quality flooring and installation since 1980. They don't plan to change that. They just want consumers to understand that these price increases are out of their control. They will continue to do their best to offer quality products at fair prices. They ask consumers to be understanding through this transition as the impact of the tariffs becomes fully realized.

Hopkins Carpet One is a Twin Cities flooring store that sells and installs carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl and laminate flooring. They want consumers to be informed of what's happening in the flooring industry regarding the tariffs. They are open to any questions regarding this issue and will do their best to be transparent about price increases and other changes.
