Come just as you are and hear once again of the love, compassion, and healing that are in Christ.
Foundations of the Faith covers these five Christian basics: Understanding Salvation, Assurance of Salvation, Following Jesus, Sanctification, and, The Christian Walk. This thorough guide includes Instruction on: Prayer, Bible Study, Baptism, Fellowship, Suffering, Trials, Chastening, Sin after salvation, Walking with endurance and more.
Understanding Salvation begins with a record of God's historical work among mankind, and then turns to address the problem of sin. Christian salvation can be summarized in these simple concepts:
• Mankind needed to be rescued from sin and death.
• God sent His Son to save us.
• Jesus' death on the cross was the sufficient offering for our atonement.
• Those who place their trust in Jesus are delivered from sin and death.
When children receive an extravagant gift they sometimes wonder if it can really be theirs to keep. In much the same way, Christians can soon begin to doubt whether God's costly gift of eternal life was really meant for them. Assurance of Salvation contains key Bible verses to assure and reassure believers of God's great love, and His plan for a victorious Christian life.
Following Jesus is an introduction to Christian discipleship. The disciplines of prayer, Bible reading, and godly living are presented and encouraged. Instruction on the importance of water baptism and corporate worship is also provided. These essential disciplines will help the new believer build upon the firm foundation of Christ, resulting in a life of joy and good fruit.
Sanctification is both an event and a process. From God's eternal perspective, Christians are sanctified and set apart for Him at the time of their conversion. But maturing in the faith includes the Christian's personal progress toward holy living. This progress is hastened by learning what pleases God according to His Word. The section on sanctification also explains how God uses trials, chastening, and the circumstances of everyday life to conform us to His image.
The Christian Walk shares some experiences that are typically encountered as Christians grow in their faith. This section includes encouragement and instruction toward maintaining the awareness of the Lord's presence that is often part of the new believer's experience. Also explained is the proper response to sin after salvation and what is commonly referred to as "backsliding."
