New Fairview Heights Rec Center Showcases G&S Acoustical Panels

Specialty Products Creatively Improve Sound Quality of Wide Open Areas

ST. LOUIS - May 24, 2019 - PRLog -- G&S Architectural Products and its sister company G&S Acoustics a subsidiary of Golterman & Sabo, are pleased to have played a special role in helping the city of Fairview Heights, Illinois, build its dream recreational center. Now open in time for the city's 50th anniversary, the $21 million, 58,000-square foot recreational complex, aptly called "the Rec," offers something for everyone.

The Rec's centerpiece is a 12,000 square-foot indoor aquatic center with a four-lane lap pool, a splash pad, water slide, lazy river, and open-swim pool with a "zero-depth" entry for easy access by all ages and abilities.

There is also an indoor gymnasium with basketball and volleyball courts; a walking track; a 6,000 square-foot fitness center with separate rooms for Pilates, yoga and other classes; a multipurpose room; party, game and meeting rooms; and a childcare center.

Another unique feature is the "Clip 'n Climb," a climbing area for all levels and ages. The Rec's Clip 'n Climb is the only one of its kind in the region as it was originally developed in New Zealand.

And throughout this beautiful new complex are G&S acoustical panels and other sound treatments that provide noise control in this energetic environment. The Clip 'n Climb, childcare area, track and aquatic center all have colorful, functional G&S acoustical panels adorning the walls.

For their part of this major project, G&S Architectural Products managed and installed the G&S Acoustics Acoutical wall panels, SoundWave Clouds, G&S Baffles and Banners while G&S Acoustics manufactured the acoustical treatments for almost every room in the Rec.

"With the variety and creativity of acoustical products used, the Fairview Heights Rec complex was a great project for G&S," says Dennis Voss, Director of Sales, G&S Architectural Products. "This is a beautiful complex that the city can be proud of and the citizens of the community will truly enjoy."

A vast amount of G&S Banners were installed in the ceiling of the gym to help absorb sound in the large, open areas. Durable, sound-absorbing Resolute wall panels were installed to reduce noise reverberation around the upper track.

The fitness center has G&S Baffles hanging from above to tackle the sound issues in this room.

G&S Architectural Products worked with the architects of the Farnsworth Group and Waterhout Construction to create and install the blue SoundWave Clouds for the Rec's main lobby. SoundWave is G&S Acoustics' curved, independently-hung, sound-absorbing acoustical clouds.

Construction for the Rec began in the fall of 2017 and was completed in the spring of this year. The Rec is located on Bunkum Road, just north of Interstate 64, on approximately 30 acres. The Rec offers a variety of outdoor activites with a 1.5 mile walking path, a running track, a soccer field, a dog park and a nature trail around the perimeter.
