Follow on Google News | 9/11 Survivor to Speak With Student at Living Lessons EventLiving Lessons – Voices, Visions and Values, sharing survival and courage
By: Joe Torrillo Other speakers will include a survivor of the church shooting in South Carolina, a survivor of human trafficking, a former child soldier, Holocaust survivors, victims of bullying and teasing, people who have become physically disabled, Sandy Hook Elementary School survivors, and WWII POW's. Each speaker will be sharing stories of courage, character and survival in the face of the unexpected. The overall theme of "Living Lessons" is addressing prejudices, dealing with race and religion, along with bias and stereotyping. These subjects will be openly addressed in small groups allowing time for questions and thoughts. This program of speakers will be recounting their heroic, diverse, and powerful stories of adversity and triumph. Stories from genocide or physical challenges, to being a victim of violence or a survivor of war, the speakers of "Living Lessons" will share with students in grades 6-8, their experiences in overcoming challenges, prejudices, and discrimination. "Living Lessons" addresses a variety of topics. Some of the topics to be covered include surviving gun violence, bullying, racism and other prejudices, human trafficking, disabilities and more. Every other year since 2005, "Living Lessons – Voices, Visions and Values" has had a powerful effect on the students, faculty and staff of the Robert R. Lazar Middle School in Montville Township, New Jersey. Mr. Torrillo will be presenting his inspirational story of Devastation to Inspiration and will be sharing in detail the events of the terrorist attacks on that fateful day of September 11,2001 that left him near-death. Joe will be sharing his journey through physical rehabilitation and the process of coming to grips with survivor's guilt. He realizes now that God spared him for a later mission in life and now travels the world sharing his experiences in his mission to re-patriotize America.
