WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - May 9, 2019 - PRLog -- Florida family divorce mediator Matthew Brickman has conducted 2,100 mediations, mediating for 6,831 hours for people and organizations in conflict. If there was one word to describe what he encounters on a daily basis it would be the word parabellum.

Parabellum is Latin for "prepare for war" and is often used within the context of the phrase Si vis pacem, para bellum, meaning "If you want peace, prepare for war."

He issued the statement, "Most, if not all of my mediations have been post-filing which means the parties have already prepared for war. Many battles take place in the overall war and many settle in the midst of a particular battle."

His full comments can be seen in the video below:

According to the Florida Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) there were just under four million lawsuits filed in the state in 2015 and 2016. 82% settled in their first mediation, 13% settled just before court, 5% went to court.

He went on to say, "In order to obtain peace, many times people must prepare for war. The threat of war and the collateral damage particularly the children, the loss of health, finances, work, etc, is often enough for the parties to come to their senses and not their knees. This is what mediation is all about."

As a cost-conscious and compassionate mediator Mr. Brickman emphasizes how expensive war in the legal system can be. Divorce may cost tens of thousands of dollars with lengthy court battles dragging on for years. Mediation can be conducted for a fraction of the cost and most couples can be divorced in a month ready to move forward in their lives.
