SHIP BOTTOM, N.J. - May 9, 2019 - PRLog -- The New Jersey Tourism Industry Association hosted New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism Executive Director Jeff Vasser, Secretary of State Tahesha Way and keynote speaker Governor Phil Murphy to speak with over 120 statewide tourism leaders for the New Jersey Tourism Week Breakfast and Advocacy Day held  at the Masonic Temple in Trenton. As part of the awards presentation, the 105 year strong Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce received this year's NJ Tourism President's Award for their Downtown Driven Water Ferry project. This recognition reflects work done for their Private and Public Partnership which includes Borough of Beach Haven, Borough of Tuckerton EDC, Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce, Ocean County Planning Department and Tuckerton Seaport Museum. This project is unique and successfully brings tourism, economic development and innovation into New Jersey for all to benefit. The ferry will begin running July 4th weekend and will continue every Saturday, Sunday and Monday until Labor Day with a special Chowderfest Express run October 5 & 6. There is no fee to ride the ferry on stand by, but reservations can be made on www.LBIFerry.com for $10 round trip to benefit the Tuckerton Seaport. The pontoon boat seats 25 passengers on a comfortable and covered voyage in the newly classified Category 1 waterway. In addition to travel, the ferry service will help educate its visitors and residents alike on the importance of protecting the local water system.

In addition to the regional organization being honored, two of its members were also recognized. The Suasion Communication Group received the Digital Outreach Tourism Excellence Award and Six Flags Great Adventure won the award for Public Relations Tourism Excellence. During the presentation Governor Murphy announced that tourism was up in 2018, with NJ welcoming a record 111 million visitors who spent over $45 billion. As one of the largest industries within the state, tourism overall supports employmeant for approximately 530000 people.

The award was presented to chamber CEO Lori Pepenella also in attendance was chamber Treasurer Andrea Driscoll. The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce serves as one of New Jersey's globally accredited Destination Marketing and Management Organizations, operates a year round visitor center and represents over 500 businesses within the Long Beach Island Region.
