Researchmatch Comes To New Orleans Communities
Free Online Service Connecting People to Clinical Studies Expands
"Many studies end early because there are not enough volunteers,"
ResearchMatch has an amazing track record across the country with 138,979 volunteers, 6,952 researchers, and 685 studies to date. These number continue to increase through awareness campaigns. However, there is still a great deal of work to do. In New Orleans, where the top causes of death include heart disease, cancer, kidney disease, chronic lower respiratory disease, Alzheimer's and HIV, according to the Community Health Data Profile on Health Disparities in New Orleans produced in 2013 by the New Orleans Health Department, ResearchMatch believes its services are needed and could support research and advance discoveries in the future.
Currently, ResearchMatch is actively recruiting partners in the New Orleans area to help spread awareness about the online platform and encourage participation. A ResearchMatch specialized team will be at the Tremé/7th Ward Arts & Culture Festival on May 25-26th, where they will have a booth set up to speak with attendees, share information and provide giveaways. Those in the New Orleans area interested in learning more about ResearchMatch, becoming a social media partner, or scheduling ResearchMatch to come speak with their organizations during the May 24-26thweekend can contact Latrivia Welch at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Researchmatch.org is a collaborative project, led by the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical & Translational Research, and involves a number of other not-for-profit institutions. ResearchMatch aims to serve as an effective, useful and complementary recruitment tool that will help connect willing volunteers with researchers who are searching for appropriate volunteers to be placed in their research studies (not just clinical trials).
