TAMPA, Fla. - May 7, 2019 - PRLog -- Down & Out Books is thrilled to announce that it will be publishing a new series of interrelated crime novels written by Frank Zafiro.

In October, 2019, AT THEIR OWN GAME, previously published in 2015, is scheduled to be reissued with a newly written second book, IN THE CUT, set to be published in January, 2020. At least two more books with storylines in the same universe are planned.

"I'm a big fan of Frank's work," said Eric E. Campbell, publisher of Down & Out Books. "His depth of character development and his deftly written plots are the hallmarks of his books. I can't wait to see how this series evolves."

"When AT THEIR OWN GAME was originally published, I considered it a stand-alone," said Zafiro. "But I couldn't stop thinking about the world these characters lived in, and that there were more stories to tell. When I told Eric about my idea of exploring that world in a series, he was enthusiastic in his encouragement to do so."

About the SpoCompton series: These books are set in Spokane, Washington, which has endured the undesirable nickname of "SpoCompton" since the early 1990s, due to a perception of a similar crime rate to Compton, CA. Zafiro chose the name for the series because each of the novels is told from the criminal side of things, as opposed to much of his crime fiction that features the law enforcement perspective.

About AT THEIR OWN GAME: Jake Stankovic has been dealing safely in stolen property but times are tough, so he risks a drug deal. The deal goes bad. Then Jake must deal with a vengeful detective, a possible turncoat in his crew, and a woman from a long past affair who suddenly reappears. And Jake Stankovic used to be a cop. Now he must get his money back, keep the girl, and beat everyone involved…at their own game.

About IN THE CUT: Boone's quest to join the Iron Brotherhood outlaw motorcycle gang comes to a head after a dangerous encounter he faces on the club's behalf. His reward comes with even greater danger, in the form of drugs, violence, and dark relationships. When the person who is the closest thing he has to family dies, Boone's world explodes, and he learns what it really means to live life…in the cut.
