Conservancy of Southwest Florida to host family activities May 18 in honor of Endangered Species Day

NAPLES, Fla. - May 6, 2019 - PRLog -- The Conservancy of Southwest Florida is recognizing national Endangered Species Day with a special day of family-friendly fun that raises awareness about the endangered and threatened species who call Southwest Florida home.

On Saturday, May 18, visitors to the Conservancy can participate in a variety of engaging educational programs and special arts and crafts activities that teach guests about the region's endangered species, wildlife and habitat, including the important roles animals play in the larger ecosystem.

Florida is home to more than 133 threatened and endangered native wildlife species, making Southwest Florida one of the most vulnerable wildlife habitats in the country.

"The Conservancy's mission is to protect the unique native creatures around us," said Dr. Heather Skaza Acosta, director of education for the Conservancy. "Endangered Species Day provides a fun way for children and families to engage in learning about Southwest Florida's beloved animals, and even meet some of our threatened animal ambassadors, as we all do our part to protect our land, water and wildlife."

Additionally, the Conservancy is offering a unique weeklong partnership with the Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens. Naples Zoo members who show their membership card can receive free admission to the Conservancy between Monday, May 13 and Saturday, May 18. Likewise, Conservancy members can receive free entrance to the Naples Zoo between Monday, May 13 and Sunday, May 19.

The Conservancy Nature Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is $14.95 for adults and $9.95 for children. Kids 2 and under are free.
