Auburn Green New Deal Town Hall Features Local Candidates & Activists
By: Sunrise Placer County
The event will launch the next phase of the campaign for the Green New Deal and share how the 10-year mobilization to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs would improve the lives of people in Placer County. Speakers will highlight the urgent need to provide green jobs to rural residents while also tackling climate change. This town hall will be one of over 250 similar events happening in churches, classrooms, and union halls across the country this spring as part of the national Road to a Green New Deal tour.
In 2018, young people put the Green New Deal on the national agenda and permanently changed the conversation on climate policy in this country. Since then, the movement backing the Green New Deal has exploded and is shaping up to be a top issue in the 2020 elections. 100 members of Congress have co-sponsored Sen. Markey and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez's resolution, and polls show that the Green New Deal is broadly supported among voters of both parties. Sunrise has added more than 150 new local chapters since November, is growing every day.
"We have a right to good jobs and a livable future," said Jessica Dickinson of Sunrise Placer. "We have ten years to act to ensure we aren't living in chaos. Come learn how to make the Green New Deal, the only proposal on the table that truly addresses the scope of the fight we're facing."
