NEW YORK - May 2, 2019 - PRLog -- Sustainability start-up company goMkt has announced its first Kickstarter campaign to fund the development of its upcoming suite of products. goMkt first launched a platform to connect New Yorkers with environmentally-conscious retailers with food that could otherwise go to waste, and is currently building additional products to scale its presence throughout New York City. Through its discounted "flash sales," goMkt is helping to combat a growing societal issue while enabling food businesses to recoup lost revenue.

In the United States, $218 billion dollars is spent each year growing, processing, and transporting food that is never consumed. This represents 40% of the food supply, and is occurring while one in eight Americans is still food insecure. Restaurants alone contribute 50 billion pounds of food waste per year, only 1.4% of this ever gets donated to people in need.
