LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - May 2, 2019 - PRLog -- With sunny skies overhead, staff members from Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management joined 80 volunteers to collect recyclables from more than 2,300 participants at Gwinnett County Fairgrounds on April 13. The results of this Earth Day 2019 community recycling event were nothing short of astounding. Over the course of just three hours, the event saw the collection of over 4,500 gallons of paint – including oil-base, latex and aerosols, 6 tons of tires, 20 tons of paper and 14 tons of electronics. Combined, that's slightly less than the weight of the average male blue whale and slightly more than a Boeing 707 jet airliner.

"We're incredibly happy with the results of this year's Earth Day recycling event," said Schelly Marlatt, Executive Director for Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. "In year's past, we had hosted paper shredding-only Earth Day events, but opted to expand it in 2019 to include paint, tires and electronics – basically items that we hear a lot about from our neighbors as being hard to dispose since they're not collected curbside. While we saw a slight drop in tonnage of the paper we processed this year as compared to the last two Earth Day events, we saw some impressive numbers in the three other new categories. We are so grateful for the help we received from our awesome volunteers, our partners at Solid Waste Management and Gwinnett County Fire and Police Explorers, and our hosts at Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. We also truly appreciate the participation of our neighbors who came out to the event after spending time collecting all those items from their homes and offices in order to recycle or dispose of them properly. After all, proper recycling and disposal are important components to keeping Gwinnett clean, green and beautiful."

In addition to Earth Day, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management also team up to host America Recycles Day together each year. On top of paper shredding and the collection of paint, tires and electronics, America Recycles Day in Gwinnett also calls for the collection of textiles/clothing, sneakers and ink/toner cartridges. America Recycles Day 2019 is scheduled for November 9.
