By: R&B Hall of Fame Although Eddie Kendricks made his name as one of the lead singers of the legendary Temptations (inducted as a group in 2013), he went on to become the most successful solo artist to break from the group. Leaving the Temptations in Nov. of 1970, Kendricks went on to have three #1 R&B singles (Boogie Down, Keep on Truckin', and Shoeshine Boy). He also had nine Top Ten singles on the R&B charts and six Top Ten R&B albums. Kendricks joins a 2019 induction class that fields legends from all sub-genres of R&B: fellow Motown legends Aretha and Stevie Wonder, Funk-Rock pioneers the Band of Gypsys, 90's R&B hit-makers Guy and H-Town, smooth vocalists like Stephanie Mills, Keith Washington, and Phil Perry, Mr. Personality and Stagger Lee's Lloyd Price, Ray Parker Jr., The Tymes, David Washington, Bumps Blackwell, Don Davis, Henry Cosby, and Jimmy Roach. Performances will also be a constant feature during the induction ceremony.
