SEATTLE - April 24, 2019 - PRLog -- Rebuilding Together, the leading national nonprofit organization with a mission to repair the homes of people in need and revitalize our communities, is hosting its annual National Rebuilding Day this Saturday, April 27th. Last year, over 30,000 volunteers donated 230,000 hours throughout National Rebuilding Month.

In our community, Rebuilding Together Seattle will host nearly 700 volunteers to repair 16 homes throughout the City of Seattle during National Rebuilding Month, with the majority of projects taking place this Saturday, during National Rebuilding Day. A number of local organizations and companies are participating through event sponsorships, in-kind donations, and volunteer support. This includes top event sponsors Booz Allen Hamilton, Clark Construction, Exxel Pacific, KPFF, and the Center for Spiritual Living.

Throughout April, Rebuilding Together affiliates and volunteers will serve veterans, older adults, families with children and victims of disaster by providing them with a variety of critical, safe and healthy home repairs, including: flooring repairs and replacement, weatherization repairs, roof and handrail replacements, accessibility modifications, painting, landscaping and other major home rehabilitations. The repairs are provided free of charge to neighbors in need, who are often faced with diminishing resources and must choose food and medicine over critical home repairs. Over time, neglect of maintenance can lead to crumbling foundations, dangerously sagging roofs and windows and doors that can't be securely shut.

"What began as a grassroots effort to repair homes and revitalize communities is now a nationwide movement to ensure everyone can live in a safe home and community," said Caroline Blakely, President and CEO of Rebuilding Together. "Through the work of our dedicated rebuilders we are able to positively impact the lives of our neighbors in need during the month of April and throughout the year."

National Rebuilding Month will culminate on National Rebuilding Day, Saturday April 27, and will engage volunteers to complete repairs on homes, nonprofit facilities and community spaces to bring immediate, transformational change to neighborhoods across America on the same day.

National Rebuilding Month originated in 1973 in Midland, Texas with volunteers helping neighbors rebuild their homes. The group founded Rebuilding Together, at the time "Christmas in April," and gathered around a month of service each year in April. The mission then grew beyond the idea of providing service one month per year to bringing volunteers together to provide neighbors in need with critical repairs year-round.

Rebuilding Together Seattle, a local affiliate of Rebuilding Together, works to strengthen the lives of our most vulnerable communities by providing low-income homeowners with critical home repairs, accessibility modifications and energy-efficient upgrades. We mobilize nearly 2,000 volunteers annually and will complete about 200 rebuild projects this year, with the vision of a safe and healthy home for every person. As we help to stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods, our impact extends beyond each home through our entire community. Learn more at
