C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment's Travel Salary Index – March 2019 • Salaries rise to highest point since September • Standard travel wages increase for first time in 2019 • Placements rise but new candidate numbers see further fall Strong month for travel salaries With a 4.15 per cent monthly increase, salaries for the average new job in travel have risen to their highest level since last September, according to the latest Travel Salary Index from C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment which surveyed all new vacancies registered with the companies during the month. March's figure of £27,579 is also up 2.49 per cent from the same month in 2018 and up 4.71 per cent on the rolling 12-month average. It was also a positive month for standard travel jobs (those paying up to £40,000) with average salaries rising by 2.25 per cent to £24,817 – their first monthly increase of the year. There was a big jump of 7.02 per cent on the rolling 12-month average, but wages fell by 1.28 per cent compared to March 2018, which was the first year-on-year fall since December 2017 following 14 months of successive rises. Candidate numbers slip in March It was a poor month for new candidates, with registrations falling to their weakest March total since at least 2011 meaning that the number of new job seekers has now dipped year-on-year for ten months in a row. Despite this, the amount of successful job placements remained healthy and rose by three per cent compared to March 2018, while the volume of new travel jobs also stayed above average after a marginal monthly rise of one per cent despite a year-on-year fall. Speaking about the stats, Barbara Kolosinska, Director at C&M Travel Recruitment (http://www.candm.co.uk/ "However, it's concerning that candidate numbers are down year-on-year once again. It's hard to say exactly how much impact the prolonged Brexit uncertainty is having on the recruitment market, but it clearly is a factor for many potential candidates who are choosing to remain in their current roles rather than look for a change. However, now that the UK appears to be remaining in the EU until at least the end of October, we're hopeful that we'll see activity levels improve over the rest of spring and into summer." …………………………………………………… All figures are drawn from the salaries of the month's new vacancies advertised with C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment. C&M Travel Recruitment was established in 1998 and is the largest and most successful specialist travel recruitment company in the UK.
