By: Wild Bird Center of Evansville
The weekend will kick off with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, May 3 at 1:00 PM. "One of the first things we did when we opened was to join the Southwest Indiana Chamber of Commerce", says Becky. "We are thrilled to have them share this exciting moment with us and the community," she adds.
On Saturday, May 4, WIKY radio will do a live remote. Wesselman Woods will showcase their raptors, during a "Live Birds of Prey" event at 1:00 PM. Then at 3:00 PM, Anne Butsch, President of the local Indiana Native Plant Society, will present a program on the importance of planting native plants.
On Sunday, May 5, the Talon Trust, a raptor rescue and rehabilitation group, will host a "Meet and Greet" with their impressive birds of prey. Greg states "We are so fortunate to have the opportunity twice this weekend to get up close and personal with raptors, thanks to Wesselman Woods and the Talon Trust." Bring the kids out on Sunday from noon until 2:00 PM to enjoy the Shriner Funster Clowns as well.
There will be free gift bags given to the first 25 customers each day, as well as daily prize drawings. Becky states "We hope to meet new friends at our Grand Opening and add to the number of bird-watching enthusiasts in the greater Evansville area and have some fun at the same time."
The locally owned store, which has been in Evansville since mid-February, is a "one-stop-shop"
The owners of the store, Greg and Mary Miller, and Darvin and Becky Will, are long-time residents of the Evansville area who enjoy sharing their enthusiasm for birds and nature in general. The store's day-to-day operations are managed by Greg Miller and Becky Will. "We are enjoying meeting our customers, sharing in their stories and offering our expertise to make their hobby more enjoyable", states Greg.
