Orchid Island makes history again - IDGO released a blockchain-based indigenous currency

TAIPEI, Taiwan - April 23, 2019 - PRLog -- Orchid Island proudly announced the release of the Tao Coin, a blockchain-based currency for the indigenous people and tourists on the island. The technology is expected to bring more tourists, promote the sustainable development on the island and support the indigenous culture. The Tao Coin is part of a technology portfolio from IDGO which also include the Tao Passport that made history one year ago.

Tao Passport is a blockchain-based self-sovereign identity, which include an APP and a physical card, both available for locals and tourists.

Jacob Lee, the CEO of DTCO and leader of IDGO technical team, elaborates on the value of Tao Coin: "The concept of a community currency such as Tao Coin has been in existence for a long time. Residents holding community currencies will naturally seek to consume locally, thereby promoting the local development and creating wealth 'in the community'."

Jacob Lee explains the technical advantages: "Through a blockchain based account, the user can check the status of transaction in real time. The account can be audited at any time without relying on third parties. The blockchain smart contract is transparent, fair, secure and brings global connectivity. Tao Coin and e-Identity are now integrated in the TaoPassport APP and users can independently control their personal data and digital wallets. The APP will gradually add information on merchants, certified guides and eco-friendly businesses to facilitate its adoption."

CEO Jacob Lee also indicated that the next step is to bring decentralized credit system and intellectual property protection to the project.
