Volunteers Needed to Preserve Big Sur Coast

BIG SUR, Calif. - April 16, 2019 - PRLog -- While winter rains have brought welcome relief to California's drought conditions, they unfortunately are also fueling an explosion of nonnative plants that threatens Big Sur's world-renowned natural resources. Nature Corps, a nonprofit volunteer conservation organization, is inviting individuals, families, and employee groups to stem this invasion by participating in a critical volunteer weekend scheduled for May 17-19, 2019.

The Big Sur coast of California is known as the "greatest meeting of land and water in the world," and has been described as a "national treasure that demands extraordinary procedures to protect it."

Volunteers are urgently needed to preserve Big Sur's coastal mountain range where now smaller populations of nonnative flora are poised to overtake many acres of native habitat. Over time, these nonnatives will significant impact wildlife by reducing their sources of food and breeding habitat.

After volunteering in this scenic wonder, volunteers will explore the park's world-class beaches and enjoy exquisite meals and wine pairings as they prepare to satisfy their appetites on the savory aromas and hearty dishes prepared by Central Coast chefs. To celebrate the parks' stunning coastline, volunteers will also take part in a variety of organized nature and photography walks.

Nature Corps is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit volunteer conservation organization established in 1987. It has received a number of national and state awards for its conservation efforts, including a Congressional "Take Pride" award for planting 20,000 trees throughout Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

The organization offers a variety of youth programs and voluntours in Yosemite, Sequoia, Hawaii, and Morro Bay State Park. Nature Corps also provides companies with all-inclusive employee volunteer and teambuilding outings. Proceeds from company sponsorships are used to support low-income youth that wish to volunteer in the parks. All contributions a tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
