In 2008, Gloria Squitiro was legally banned from the Kansas City, MO City Hall where her husband, Mark Funkhouser ("Funk"), was mayor.  Her story made national news headlines on Good Morning America, Fox and Friends, NPR, The Wall Street Journal, NY Times, USA Today, and many others.

In this first volume of her humorous, sharp-witted, and brutally honest three part memoir series, Gloria swallows her fear of traveling, sets up a campaign office, and prepares for Funk's run for mayor, which Gloria and Funk decided while sitting on a park bench outside a Kansas City carwash.  To be continued in her next volumes, Gloria eventually, without any experience whatsoever, manages her husband's campaign to the finish line only to learn that being Kansas City's First Lady will bring legal pitfalls, lost friendships, and personal calamities for her and her family.

Funk calls Gloria "a skydiver afraid of heights" -- despite her fears, Gloria forges ahead and confronts her anxieties head on. May Cause Drowsiness and Blurred Vision begins with her family's summer long European journey, which Gloria figures out how to do cost-free and arranges it all, but when it's time to leave she has an anxiety attack walking out the door. While in Europe, Gloria learns of her father's passing and has periodic visions of him when Funk is away on business.

In sharing her story of courage and becoming her new and better self, Gloria hopes to inspire those who find themselves nodding in agreement to also step out in faith, to make a difference where it counts, and to stand up for others … and themselves.
