Wagner participated at GALA 2019 in Munich and presented their new study on Machine Translation

NEW YORK - April 11, 2019 - PRLog -- The 11th GALA conference took place in the city of Munich, Germany in late March and received more than 500 delegates from 50 countries, establishing a new record. The topic this year was around AI and the increasingly important role it is playing in our lives and in the translation industry.

Between March 24th and 27thΒΈ GALA served a space where language service providers got to exchange, learn and reflect on the future of the industry, as well as the trends shaping it.

As a member of the Globalization and Localization Association, Wagner Consulting participated actively in this event. Fitting to this year's theme at GALA "The Changing Role of the Human Being in an AI-driven Language Service Industry", Wagner's representatives attended the different sessions and participated presenting the study they conducted, named: "The evolution concerning fidelity and intelligibility of the quality of Machine Translation over time."

For the study, Wagner Consulting selected four different texts from different fields including Law, Medicine, Science, and Web Content. Those were run through Google translation and SDL Language Cloud and translated to German by certified translators for the purpose of comparing. Later, a team of ten independent translators reviewed all the outcomes, following Wagner's guidelines.

Not only did Wagner assessed the human component in an industry in which technology keeps evolving and becoming more advanced each time, but also explained the evolution of Machine Translation over the last decade and presented the results regarding fidelity and intelligibility in figures concerning Google Translate and SDL Language Cloud.

The person in charge of presenting the study was Gino Toti, US Division Head of Wagner Consulting with extensive experience in the industry. Wagner's presentation, along with the other sessions, helped have a deeper understanding on the new roles, workflows, and talents, agreeing that AI-driven changes will demand new human talent.

GALA's 11th annual Conference allowed participants to discuss and learn in order to stay up to date with the current trends, as well as potential prospects. AI was certainly mentioned throughout the different sessions yet the human component was the heart of this year's conference. Hence, GALA reassured one more time its commitment to the development of talent, offering a space for content sharing and learning.
