The NYC Independent Film Festival will present over 275 awesome indie films! The lineup includes drama, short films, TV Pilots, music videos and documentaries. But also panel discussions. One of the main topics this year will be: women in film.

NEW YORK - April 9, 2019 - PRLog -- Films:
Come and see our collection of awesome documentaries and drama productions on women. A few films picked for you:

- BACKLASH by Sara Jegeman:  A documentary on Zeliha Dagli, a feminist and activist, who takes us to the suburb of Stockholm, where human rights are being surpassed by the waves of fundamentalism. Honorary killings, parallell societies and integration, as well as political islam is debated by four women rights activists hailing from Turkey, Tunisia and Iran.

- RUN AWAY RUE by Sara Kim Martinez: the story of a girl whose extremely heavy menstrual cycle forces her to confront her fear and anxiety, which manifest in haunting hallucinations caused by blood loss.

- MADRES DE LUNA by Alicia Albares: four women, of diferent places in the world, are united by the voice of a very special baby: the little girl that was not able to be born of them, but who lived in their tummies. She narrates her past lifes while struggles for her primary goal: to be born.

- HYSTERICAL WOMEN by Nora Kaye & Whitney Uland: a dark comedy about gender in the workplace, in our current political and sociological climate. It follows Alexa - the overlooked co-founder of a music marketing firm - as she realizes that all her buddies in the office might not be such good guys. The women in this office are ready for a revolution. Will Alexa have the guts to do anything about it? Can she be the leader they need?

Panel Discussion:
Join us this year for our fourth annual Women in Film panel. Come hear straight from our all- female group of successful filmmakers about their exciting careers and get the chance to ask them questions!
A mainstay in our programming since 2015, the Women in Film panel aims to discuss personal experiences, advice to aspiring filmmakers, as well as solutions to the issues women currently face in the industry. This panel will be a great opportunity to network and learn firsthand from seasoned professionals who have made names for themselves in a notoriously male dominated field.

We will have:

Jan Eliasberg, film director
Writer and award winning director: She has directed Miami Vice, Crime Story, Nashville, Parenthood, NCIS: Los Angeles, among many other shows. She is the winner of the Emmy, Imagen, and NAACP Image awards.

Jenifer Westphal, producer
Producer and founder of Wavelength Productions, a financing, production and development company with an 80% female staff. Wavelenghth Productions produced the award winning documentary: Won't You Be My Neighbor?

Danelle Eliav, producer/filmmaker
Actor, writer, filmmaker and producer. She produced Menashe, which was nominated for Gotham Award and Independent Spirit Award. Other work includes The Great Pretender, The Sheik, Fry Day.

Afia Nathaniel, film director
Director and Filmmaker: Dukhtar (Daughter), winner of Audience Award for Best Feature at Creteil Women's Film Festival, Best World Feature at Sonoma International Film Festival, as well as Best Director and Best Feature Film at the South Asian International Film Festival
