Follow on Google News | Better World Int Kicks off #GoodWeek with The Good Cards App for Spreading KindnessSchools around the Nation Spread Kindness by using The Good Cards during BWI's #GoodWeek school-based program.
By: The Good Cards #GoodWeek is the second school-based initiative that Better World International, the not-for-profit behind The Good Cards, has rolled out this academic year. It follows the successful rollout of The Good Cards and CHARACTER COUNTS!® program that engaged teachers in professional character development activities. #GoodWeek similarly leverages The Good Cards to engage students in cultivating empathy through their acts of doing good, and performing kindness in a fun way for themselves and others, connected with classroom instruction. The Good Class is a supplemental, experience-based Social Emotional Learning curriculum. By teaching the power of doing good, and engaging students in the process, The Good Class helps to: • improve inclusive communication, • reduce incidents of bullying, • reduce chances of student depression, and • engage students in experiencing empathy Starting April 8th students in 10 schools will participate in #GoodWeek. The adventure begins with The Good Class curriculum, and teaching about the power of doing good. Students then receive a Good Card (a recycled plastic card) and download The Good Cards app that tracks the ripple effect as each student performs good deeds. The app tracks each Good Card as it travels around the school district, connecting students with each other, and community members - close to home and around the world; showing everyone the ripple effect of the kindness their good deeds makes. "As a school, we have been focusing on community building this year, as well as highlighting all the good that our students do. When we came across The Good Cards, it was the perfect addition to our mission," said Caitlin and Christina of Boothbay Regional HS. "The Good Cards program gives our kids, from a small town in Maine, the opportunity to see how far kindness can ripple through society, while at the same time bringing them together for a common, community-based cause. This platform allows us to connect our communities locally and globally." Some of this year's participating Good Schools are: • Boothbay Regional High School, Boothbay, ME • Thrive Public Middle School, San Diego, CA • Monroe County High School, Monroe, NY • Bennett-Hemenway Elementary School in Matick, MA • WE Club at Garvy School in Chicago, IL • Arbor Vitae Woodruff School, Arbor Vitae, WI • Listening and Speaking, El Paso Community College, El Paso, TX "The Good Cards is a natural fit for the academic environment," For any educators or community leaders, who are interested in using The Good Cards and/or The Good Class supplemental, experience-based Social Emotional Learning curriculum should reach out to contact@thegoodcards.com.
